The Girl and the Secret of the Dreamland (book excerpt)

Olivia was a girl whose eyes held the whole world as one giant "Why?". Every day she came up with new games, and her faithful shadow, her dog Bella, joined in every one. Olivia loved learning new things. Her mother told her interesting stories and read her fairy tales. The girl couldn't read yet, but she loved looking at the letters and pictures in books, making up her own stories for them. But there was one thing Olivia didn't like: going to sleep.

"I don't want to sleep," she would grumble. "It’s so boring!"

"But darling, when you fall asleep, you see dreams. And that’s where the most incredible wonders live," her mother said softly.

One evening, as usual, her mother came into Olivia’s room to read a story and wish her sweet dreams. In her hands, she held a large book with a bright blue cover decorated with golden patterns.

"What is this new book, Mommy?" Olivia asked in surprise.

"This is the Book of Dreams," her mother answered mysteriously, sitting on the edge of the bed. "Every single dream in the world lives inside it. And you are in there, too."

"Really? Please, read it!" the girl begged, completely forgetting that she hadn't wanted to sleep at all.
