The day was drawing to a close, but the rain showed no sign of ending.
Veronica sat by the window, yawning.
"It seems like bedtime, but I’m not quite sleepy yet."
Suddenly, she heard someone crying outside.
"Hey! Who’s there?" Veronica called out, but no one answered—the sobbing only grew louder.
"How curious!" the girl whispered. "I should go see. Someone might need help!"
Veronica put on her favorite red raincoat, grabbed her umbrella, and stepped out onto the porch.
"Who's here?" she shouted. "Why are you crying?"
"I'm lost!" a tiny voice replied. "I'm sitting under the bush by the porch."
The girl leaned down toward the bush and saw a wet, white fluffy bundle sitting there, crying.
